It illustrates the enriching aspects of the so-called negative emotions and helps us achieve the emotional flexibility whereby sadness easily mellows into solace, anger unfolds into laughter, fear evolves into excitement, jealousy opens up into appreciation, and blame gives way to forgiveness. The difficulties experienced by adult children of narcissists can manifest themselves in many ways - for example, physical self-loathing that takes the form of overeating, anorexia, or bulimia; a self-destructive streak that causes poor job performance and rocky personal relationships; or a struggle with the self that is perpetuated in the adult's interaction with his or her own children.

These dilemmas are both common and correctable, Elan Golomb tells us. Jackson MacKenzie has helped millions of people in their struggle to understand the experience of toxic relationships.

Silently seduced : when parents make their children partners

His first book, Psychopath Free , explained how to identify and survive the immediate situation. In this highly anticipated new audiobook, he guides listeners on what to do next - how to fully heal from abuse in order to find love and acceptance for the self and others. MacKenzie shares insights and tools for working through the protective self we've developed so that we can finally move on to live a full and authentic life.

He shows how these areas can be reactivated through innovative treatments including neuro feedback, mindfulness techniques, play, yoga, and other therapies. Using a combination of workshop presentations and exclusive, practical exercises, accompanied by the soothing music of Steven Halpern, John Bradshaw demonstrates how your wounded inner child may be causing you pain and offers the tools to help you gradually, safely go back to reclaim, and nurture that child - and literally help yourself grow up again.

Silently Seduced - Overcoming Enmeshment

This special presentation will show you how to: validate your inner child through meditations and affirmations; give your child permission to break destructive family roles and rules; adopt new rules allowing pleasure and honest self-exploration; deal with anger and difficult relationships; pay attention to your innermost purpose and desires A mental health expert sheds light on "gaslighting" - the manipulative technique used by sociopaths, narcissists, and others - offering practical strategies to cope and break free.

Sarkis delves into the psychology behind the phenomenon, devoting chapters to specific scenarios, such as gaslighting in dating, in relationships, at work, and in families. With warning signs and examples of the destructive consequences along with practical tips and strategies, Gaslighting will help anyone trapped in a manipulative relationship to break free and heal from this toxic behavior.

This type of narcissism is one of the most damaging forms because the abuse is so hidden and so insidious. You can be in a relationship that can last for decades and not realize you are being psychologically and emotionally controlled, manipulated, and abused. This book offers therapists an integrated approach to adding a polyvagal foundation to their work with clients. With clear explanations of the organizing principles of Polyvagal theory, this complex theory is translated into clinician and client-friendly language. Using a unique autonomic mapping process designed to effectively track autonomic response patterns, this book presents practical ways to work with clients' experiences of connection.

NARM is a somatically based psychotherapy that helps bring into awareness the parts of self that are disorganized and dysfunctional. When a parent singles out a child for special privileges and attention, that child is often unaware that the relationship is unhealthy - even incestuous.

As adults, these children struggle to feel validated, because while they have not been directly abused, they feel a sense of violation and crossed boundaries - usually done in the name of 'love' and 'caring'. The parent's love feels more confining than freeing, more demanding than giving, more intrusive than nurturing. Yet these children suffer from what psychologist Kenneth Adams calls The Silent Seduction - because there is nothing loving or caring about a close parent-child relationship that services the needs of the parent rather than the child.

In this revised and updated 20th anniversary edition of his groundbreaking book Silently Seduced, Dr. Adams explains how 'feeling close', especially with the opposite-sex parent, is not the source of comfort the image suggests, especially when that child is cheated out of a childhood by being a parent's surrogate partner. He offers a framework to understand this covert incest and its effect on sexuality, intimacy, and relationships, and how victims can begin the process of recovery.

Honestly the narrator made it slightly creepy, but that's my own personal preference. The book is expertly written and helps the reader understand why they or their spouse acts a certain way and gives steps on how to move forward. It's a difficult subject and healing process, but this book definitely helps.

I could have done without the word "Daddy" being repeated in a childlike voice over and over.

However, it validates much of what an unhealthy emotional relationship can do to one's behaviour and thought patterns. This book has been very helpful for me.

I was skeptical to buy the book at first but I am so happy I did. The book was filled with great examples that were easy to comprehend and apply to your own life. I have long struggled with intimacy issue and have spent a lot of time in therapy and read numerous books. This book nails my experience and my struggles. Extremely helpful. Highly recommended. Like most good books I wish I would have known this earlier
